Well its been long time.... Ps school starts tomorrow. We have been used to being at home at leisurely pace for the past 2.5 months. So much so for the holidays, he had been dying to go to school, away from me (this is the curse of new-x-gen, how i used to wish for some political leaders death or to the correspondents family on the first day). So the routine would set from tomorrow morn and aathu has been jumping with joy - with a long sigh - appaaada, hereafter i need not wake u after setting off the alarm (set by you with your own hands the previous night with an oath to get up early in the morning) and despite that you would exactly wake after 1/2 hour of the stipulated time only to give me coffee and breakfast of idly with rasam (of the previous night). The clockwork routine would begin and i would get decent meal hereafter... What an ungracious man!!!!!!!!!!!! After i take all the trouble to provide him a healthy breakfast and not to mention the steaming filter coffee.....
Too much of cricket makes me to shut my eyes even at the ads with the cricketers. And P has been fully dissolved into the pool. He refuses to come to bed half way through the match. Believe me the ongoing West Indies tour has been hitting me right and left. He is through all the players in the IPL and quizzes me about their franchise for which my ultimate answer would be a blank stare.... And not to mention his questions.....
P:Amma why Virat kohli is not the captain of RCB , he is an Indian rite? Why should Vettori be the captain?
Me:Because Vettori is more experienced than Kohli!!!!
P: Even Sachin is experienced but Dhoni is only the captain rite!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So why not Kohli?!!!!
Me: Blinking profusely and without knowing how to answer changes the topic.............
Aaathu has got the new Iphone4. This man who refuses to get a new jean and t-shirt indulges himself with new mobiles costing about20 times more than a new pair of jean. Odd indulgence i should say... But i really like the clarity of pictures and the new feature of google maps on that.
Saw Kung fu panda 2 at AGS Villivakkam , i liked the interior but it took solid half-an-hour to spot the theater. We had been missing the street and going to and fro through the same road for about 20 minutes ignoring the narrow street. Then went on to find the bus stand behind which the theatre stood not holding to its image projected. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the movie and was surprised to find more adults than children and equal number of thatha paatties.
Who would have thought of Peacock as an evil creature - rather odd i say. Aaathu felt extremely patriotic and was cringing that our national bird was portrayed as evil. Strange man i say!!!!!

Sick, Sick then again Sick...
Its been sick-o-mania right thro the past month. Like they used to say in SUN previously it has been sick maaaatham at P's household. It all started with one sadabisheham...
Do you believe in kan-dhrishti.... Yes its been raining on us....
The first dhrishti is like this.... Intha CG evvalavu nallava, adakkamaana ponnu, (ithuellam namba appappo seththukka vendam) how effectively she is managing home as well the kid. (the main protagonist is CG). Next - look at CG , she is sure lucky to have this kind of aathu , who does the business prudently and inspite of his workload never fails to carry her in a platter (literally) (here also though the praises are showered on aathu the protagonist is CG). Next is P - adadaa how intelligent he is? Look at the way he speaks?
One sample on P's diplomatic way...
Once his periamma made Gobi 65 and it was not just enough spicy.
Periamma - P unakku Gobi pidichirukka?
P - Romba nalla irukku, aana sambar kooda irunthaa innum nalla irukkum!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was like aaaawwwwwww for a minute.......then started ROTFL ing......
Here also the main compliments go for P but still the dhrishti part comes to me, myself athaaanga naaan. The scene from nayagan(kamal) comes to my mind here. The children would be re-enacting the roles of their father and the iyer at their backyard when one of them calls Iyere? the girl would immediately respond - Nanthan iyer!!! Nanthan iyer!!!! Antha maathiri Naanthan ella circumstances leyum nnu solla varen!!!!!!!!!!!
It started on P literally. He went down with cough, cold and then the first round of doctor was over. Immediately yours truly went to doctor for the same reason and aathu too followed suite. Not long before suddenly P got temperature to the tune of 102 and was immediately rushed to the doctor who promptly blamed the sinusitis and made appropriate noises and then gave the medicines all not before extracting all in all to the tune of thousand including medicines.
The same evening even before the thermometer cooled , i occupied the other side of the bed. What started of as fever gradually accommodated vomiting , diarrhea, joint pains, stomach ulcer etc.. So went 5 days in a jiffy with IV on first two and liquid diet on next three. Ist day the sister was in a hurry it seems so she kept the flow to the maximum and after two bottles , shivering started. Aathu who was near got scared - ithu enna spring ball maathiri body bayangara shivering ah irukkunnu. It was like the ActII popcorn popping in a cooker without the pop up sound but was amply matched by the hmmmm sounds given by yours truly... So apart from the fever and vomit medicines, ithukkum sethu oru 3 injection.
I think the month long stock would have become deplete within 5 days. Nalla vela next two days fever continue ayirunthaaa, dengue and leptospirosis medicines kooda gaali aagi irukkum.....
Now All is well nnu nenaikkaren. Waiting for the next round of dhrishti where a spate of marriages are due starting from chithirai maaasam......

Year end and the New year
Well how did it go. The holidays went in a flash. First three days were like javvu mittai and the next 12 went in a jiffy. Relatives arrival and we went there for a quick 2 day visit. And know what i had mehendi after a gap of 15 yrs. Not even for my marriage i had it. My sister's friend came exclusively and obliged me with a beautiful design. The thing is athukkappuram hand wash panrache ellam manase varala. Now only the faded orange version is left :(
Paid our ezhumalaiyaaan a quick visit and surprise! surprise! we had darshan within 45 minutes. From vaikundam entrance to the sanctum sanctorum there was no queue. Only inside we had to stand for 35 min. And we had a very good darshan inside tooo. Might be a lucky day (obviously cos it was on my birthday and aathu planned a trip accordingly). And the gift once again from none other than GRT. Bt it was presented twice , once at the hour of midnight by aathu, then again the same from P in the morning before going to the trip :) (ennathaan irunthaalum P nna special thaane)
New year eve and the day went in a fight with aathu, bt got pampered and duly compensated next day (ithukkagave sanda podaalaaam pola irukku). I got a bigggggg box of ferroro rocher . ithula enna visesham nnaaaaaa i had all the box to myself. Didnt even share with P :( [bad mother rite - illaaa illla he had cold athanaaalathaaaan ;)]
Saw manmadhan ambu - bayangara confusion - ist a romantic , masala or comedy film -entha genre leyum seraatha oru padam. Thideernu senti next without notice bayangara intellectual scene athu mudiyarthukulla romance apparam confuse aagi ok lets try comedynnu pona maathiri irunthaathu. P comfortably settled with his popcorn and lays. We went with our chitthi and family. Chithi was not able to take the climax and started polambifying. How can sangeetha get along with madhavan? that too with 2 kids? Avangalukku intha ending and together with lays - tomato flavour ellaaaam sernthu bayangara sick aayittaanga. Bt we all had bayangara fun becos of this.
Resolutions - I never take any resolution but started long before new year to indulge aathu and Ps appetite. Yes cooking fever started, lets see how long this would sustain.
Made paneer butter masala - P's verdict to his periamma - paneer kevalama irunthathu but masala romba super ah irunthathu (romba theva)
Well, happy new year and advance Pongal wishes

Madras-my memories-II
Those days weekend meant nothing for the family except for elaborate cooking and television. How we would wait for the Fridays and Sundays. The ozhiyum oliyum on Fridays , cartoon shows , ramayan / Mahabharath and evening movie on Sunday. We would wait for the turn of either tamil/telugu in the regional movies category for the extra movie to be shown on Sunday. Today we get to watch 100s of channels and not to leave behind the internet which provides you everything in a platter at the click of the mouse, still we don’t derive the happiness or pleasure which we got those days. TV watching was a wholesome experience with whole family assembling before the TV. Now, when P is in front of the TV, I take over the system and vice-versa. (aathukarar kekkave vendam, he is settled with his potti)
Movie watching in a theatre belonged to a different genre those days. No frills or elaborate preparations. We had four theatres in our vicinity – two were for ordinary occasions and the other two were treated as outings. Out of the ordinary ones, one was just a stones throw from our home and another one hardly 10 minutes by walk. But I liked the first one more because it gave me a sense of belonging – enga theatre sort of thing (owner ketta othakka varuvanga). It is one of the famous theatre and it is itself a celebrity in its own ways J
The first movie which I remember watching in a theatre – VIKRAM. I went with an uncle’s family. Still the memory is very vague but I remember we had an accident while returning and it was a minor one. So my memory always mixes the accident and the scene in the movie where kamal rushes in to the theatre in that scooter after the chasing scene (its an important scene in the movie ) where he sees the villain in the news reel. So my memory plays a collage sort of thing and mixes both these incidents where I imagine myself in the side box of the scooter. No one can forget the sidebox shown in that Bhagyaraj movie “Chinna veedu”. LOL…….

Happenings - June'10
P successfully stepped into his I standard and touch wood - never complained about the change of sections which separated B his best friend. Though he did mention few times , he took it in his stride - yet to feel the full impact i suppose.
Went to B's birthday party at Pizza Corner. P enjoyed the whole evening with the attention showered on him by all of B's acquaintance including friends and relatives. His parents , grandparents and all other relatives were very much eager to catch a glimpse of P (oh neethan P ya, B unnapathi than eppavume sollindu iruppan). His father was saying , " P i think has got more authoritative influence over B, whenever we ask him the reason for not finishing his lunch he would reply as - P moodi vekka sollittan paaa". Actually kathai ennaanna P inga veetla vanthu B sonnannu solluvaaaan. Ithula ethu poi ethu unmai. On the whole kids are smart enough to fool the parents nnu nenaikkaren .
First trip on our anniversary to mark 7 yrs of Happy Married life (athu happy ya illayannu aathukarar ah thaniya kettaathaaan theriiyum).
Googled about kodaikkanal - resorts, sight-seeing, availability of hotels, Food, route-map and tickets...
Then about Yercaud, then yelagiri and then Goa . And after prolonged research and continuous googling got tired and abandoned the project and got back to my routine life.
Then all of a sudden tickets were booked, hotels arranged and finally boarded the train - destination - Mysore. (Kadaisiyaaa vacationnnu engeyaanum ponaaa thevalangara maathiri aayiduthu) [Realised at last that aathukarar was postponing the trip religiously to make it an anniversary special ;)]
13 hours of travel - train late and added to that coach was flooded due to the rain - athuvum right below our seats - all the more made it difficult. But the scenic beauty captured at the time of dawn compensated everything. En route to Mysore from Bangalore (appothaan veliya paakka mudinjathu athu vera vishayam and the travel time was 5hrs) had its own charm and we were all engrossed with that. P was rather in a irritable mood and whenever we show him something would say - seri, naan erkanave paarthuten. No amount of cajoling helped in this. Lack of sleep put him through a bad mood, but he enjoyed sleeping in the upper berth. Only person who practiced sit-sleep was aathukarar who sat all the way near P and at times tried to accomodate himself near P in somewhat called sleeping position but all the more realised the former was better than the latter.
Atlast reached Mysore and three days went in a jiffy. Started writing a travelogue but didnt have the mood to complete it - would soon post it.
Attended one more bday party - V, a cousin of P. Then finished three books of Nora Roberts - and after reading Northern Lights started dreaming about Alaska - would like to go sometime there. Chennai kulir kkeee AC off panra neeee Alaska poganumaaa nnu Aathukarar bayangara ootttuuuu.
Met friends and had a meeting sort of thing - MIL vambu, family politics, kids - ithukke 2 hrs seriyaa pochu. Before marriage kooda perusa ethuvum uruppadiya pesa mattom , but atleast we would talk about ourselves or something funny. But, now-a-days it has become more of a complaints session. The drawing of conclusion - either nee parava illa or naaan better :(
Four movies in the pipeline to watch - wil watch them and write abt them after the weekend.

The week that was...
Summer holidays - Bt literally iam on wheels. Guests arrival, outing, and shopping [not for me:( ]
1. P's art classes are going well, and he is experimenting with various forms...monkey, butterfly, mushroom and adding your own creative things to the given picture.
2. Went to thirupathi. ITDC - one day trip. All the arrangements are good and infact we had darshan within 2.5hrs, though it was one minute it was worth the trip. We got nethra darshan without any decoration bt only thulasi malai. This time i was all the more worried during both onward and return journey to/from the hills. It was very rash driving and intha morai thaan i was chanting all the way instead of having cozy chats. P was very co-operative from the beginning - rite from getting up at 4.30 in the morning to having bfast, standing in the queue and no fussy lunch. (Touchwood). Only complaints reg the trip was - both APTDC and ITDC choose the same hotel for lunch/bfast. Due to this the buffet - lunch time becomes pathetic. The hotel is also not that equiped to handle the crowd. Lemon rice theentha vodane, they served jeera rice and curd rice ketta illa. The next one is they ask u to leave ur footwear in a shop opposite to the temple premises and all the way we r made to walk to the entrance. Imagine the plight of the people who are made to walk in the hot sun. Youngsters ok - bt children and old people. Aathukarar got blisters while all the way carrying P.
3. Next outing is Mayajaal - P had great time doing all his favourite things - game station, exhibition sort of thing with battery operated cars [both P and aathukarar went poor me :( ]
And icing on the cake - watched sura. Kankottama he saw whole movie. He is also a fan of vadivel and so all the more reasons to watch the movie. Lunch we had in arusuvai arasu - and they are giving diet coke with the meals - first time iam seeing.
4. Shopping with sister - Ammmaaaadiiiiiiiii. Nejammave it was first of its kind experience for me. Never i had taken more than 15 minutes for choosing a dress. We would always pick out the dresses which we like and select few among them - we follow elimination method. But, annaikku she took more than 4 hours just for choosing 3 dresses. Ithukku trial oru 10-15 dresses. Ninnu ninnu kaal valiye vanthuduthu. P yo amma vammaaa pogalaaam nnu ore paatuuu. Kadaisiyaaa ammma neethaaan best ammmaaa nnu antha shopping spree paarthu ore paarattu vera. (ippayaanum vazhikku vaaa nnu nenachinden)
5. Had a meeting sort of thing with friends - one of them had a baby now. So all the more of baby talks. It was as though everything was new to me. Ennamo enakku romba vayasayitta maathiriyum enakkum athukkum sambanthame illatha maathiriyum irunthathu. Seekiram life la settle ayitaa ithu oru pblm illa. Moreover, i was scared to hold the baby. It was so fragile and all the more chubby :) like ceralac baby. It was sleeping while we went there and sleeping babies are such cuties that we can keep on watching them. Bt was not able to spend more time there cos i went on parole..(athaanga class la P vittutttu antha gapla poitu vanthen)
So, on to next week. First shopping pannanum - books, wardrobe, kitchen accessories ;)
Will update....

Time Travel

Isnt a wonder, music can just transport you to a different world?!!! Its like a time-travel capsule, to be precise. It can give u joy as well the soul-ripping pain irrespective of the current situation. Today when i was listening to this song the same pain stuck me and it was not the unhappy thing but a very pleasant one. It transported me to the exact scene about 15yrs back. When the reality hit , i was hearing the voice of P and his friend playing in the next room. And immediately a smile spread on my face. - Oh i have come a long way.
The lyrics fit 100% to the scene at that time and it was as if the whole song and the picturisation was done for me.

100 not out!!!!!!!!
Hey know wat?????!!!!!!! This isssss my 100th post. Cannot believe , i wrote all these posts. Was just browsing through all my posts and woah wat did i find????
This blog cannot be categorised at all. Its a bhelpuri blog in the following order;
Kiddie Talks

And i thank all my blogger friends for the continuous support and encouragement and especially Satish who withstood all my mokkai posts for a long time :). I think the momentum picked up from last December and previously it was just 1 or 2 posts per month.
I always had this inferiority complex about my English. My mom was the first generation learner and since she passed away early, the burden fell on yours truly.(enna oru modesty..ahem ahem).
I grew up literally at the mercy of tuition teachers, and that is one reason for my verithanamanaa teaching for my kid P. Whatever it is, i try to equip myself with the help of books and the added tool "search engines". Being the only child, my solace were the newspapers and the magazines. First few years, uncles and aunts were living in different cities and other uncles were unmarried, so this helped me to hang on to the reading habit.
Those days, even if it was not for my age, i woud read thuklak (grandpas fav), manjari, kalkandu, junior vikadan and the old reliable Dhinamani..It all contributed to my flawless tamil. Though telugu by birth, iam more comfortable and fluent in tamil. After few years , caught hold of siruvar malar from an acquaintance.
"The Hindu" came into our household only during my 10th standard and only through my compulsion. There was a friend P whose parents were doctors and she was their only child. And she would be having a whole golu rack of books with tinkle, readers digest and wisdom and archies. It was my first dose of English books and i slowly cultivated the habit with the help of local library.
English Grammar was like "pavakkai" for me. Even today i am uncomfortable with adverb, pronoun etc., (Got a book on grammar already to learn and teach P and they have already started nouns and verb for P - UKG- enna kodumai ithu). But, CBSE nngarthnaala punctuation, correct the sentence appadithaan kuduppanga, so grammar part lernthu thappichu common sense use panni score panniduven. But still inferiority complex ruled to the core.
And VP was our English teacher during our 12 th std. I was more tensed, adaadaaa ivvalavu naal oppethiyaachu, ippo maattippomennu nenachinde irunthen. I mid term got over and the mark sheets came. And to my shock, surprise and call it by whatever name you want, i scored the first mark and that is 67. Hahahahaaa.... LOL. And the guy who was more proficient in English and the class rep scored 66. I was actually confused, and confirmed my name in the paper and the total again. Serinnu appothaaan , okie namba english kooda better nnu oru confidence eh vanthathu....
Adaadaa 100th post sontha kathai , soga kathai maathiri aaache.....
So one more kiddie thing...
P daily follows this ritual of sending me a sms from his fathers mobile and the exact replica of the content goes as follows:
CG is a bad girl. She always puts me to sleep in the afternoon. She not allows me to watch TV , monster kid , new adventure of hanuman, chotta bheem. She always ask me to read.

Hurray!
Hurray!! This is my 50th post. Though people wanted to celebrate ;)))) in a big way by putting up banners and poster like the one which held in kancheepuram ( pls dont ask what it is , i expect everyone to be well-informed, athukkum mela engathukku auto llam varappadathu illayonno ) i modestly discouraged them . Ennatha irunthalum enakku tharpugazhchillam pidikkathu.
So, iam giving myself a pat on the cheek and a big hug........(cos iam a lazy one, so 50 post ezhuthinathe periya vishayam illaya). I know there are people who have been blogging for years together, aana avalta ellam naama kittaye poga mudiyaathu, etho nammala mudinjathu.
Went to the landmark sale, but i was unable to find good books ( to be true books at all) on phonics . Now-a-days these schools follow the curriculum based on the phonics, but publishers are yet to come out with good books on the subject. The ones which i found were just the name-sake ones. But, i picked few story books for my kid and a book on "facts".
I also picked few R.K.Narayan books , though read them in library i always wanted to own them.
Always i wanted to own a huge library, and i have just started to pursue it in a small way. Whenever i go out i just pick out books for my kids. Now, i have close to around 100 books. Needless , to say it occupies major space in my house. About 90% are story books for my kid which are in easy to read language. Rest of them are my collections. This is apart from our professional books which constitutes 3 sacks. I hate to keep them in sacks but lack of space forces us to keep them. I always wanted to have my own study room with huge display racks as in libraries.
Wish all of you a happy and safe deepavali.
P.S - Still deepavali purchase is pending . Enga aathukarar atleast saturday kku munnadiyavathu vaangi kudupparunnu nenaikkiren. (I already have a pattu saree from my father , but paavam my kid)

Random thoughts...
Iam reading Birthright - a book of Nora Roberts. Iam very well able to relate to the protagonist (not in the exact sense though)
I did clean our bathrooms - it might sound silly but when i clean the bathrooms and toilets somehow i feel i have spent my day qualitatively. It gives me pleasure to see the ever sparkling tiles. Am i sounding foolish :(
And yippee my kid had the full quota of snacks and lunch which i gave him and he gave me the prolonged happiness by finishing the full bowl of beetroot halwa which i gave him.
Without me prompting he himself gave rest to the PC from exploding (he plays games by googling the superhero names ) by shutting it down and sat back with his notebook to study. (he is in his UKG)
Got to make raagi dosai for my dear aathukkarar.
