We have been watching movies left and right the past weekend.
Ulaga tholaikkachigalil pottaa ella padam+ new movies (online viewing) + pizza = great weekend.
We started off with Goa, tamizh padam, didnt dare to watch aayirathil oruvan (P bluntly refused to give the nod, saying athu pei padam, plz dont watch) then glimpses of thiraatha vilayattu pillai and asal. On the Tv front sat fully through Chandramukhi, gilli, anbe sivam.
Goa - Climax la ethavathu vithyasama kaattanumennu nenachu edutha climax maathiri irunthathu. Sneha character didnt have any depth atall. Just that she is a person suffering from some sort of mental illness nu kadaisila therinjathu, bt without good reasons to back up.
Just to show that they change their appearances on Goa , appadingarthukkaga, all three characters wtih parattai thalai , saamiyar beard and maavu mill pant oda kaatti irukka vendam. Whom they are trying to fool nnu theriyala, i dont seem to see such sort of persons in any of the villages i have been to. Infact , they are more smart than their city counterparts.
Tamizh padam - To borrow my aathukarars lines - "Avanga appa peru matttum mokkai illai, intha padam, en avane oru mokkai thaan". With all the hypes surrounding and thumsup signs from all of my friends, i was not able to appreciate the movie. It was more dragging and only few scenes evoked instant laughter. Eg, a la thalapathi scene...
Asal - Ajith innum Billa character laye irukkar pola irukku. Mannerism, dialogue delivery and the feel everything was same. Oru nimisham i thought i was watching billa-2, then sivaji productions banner paarthuthaan confirm panninden, it was asal nnu. Costumes of prabhu and yugi sethu = pathetic. Sameera - vaaranam aayiram sameera vaa athu... please...i want to remember her as in that song nenjukkul and not as asal sameera..
Theeratha vilayaatu pillai - Ellarum pesinde irukkanga, be it vishal, santhanam , sathyan, ammaaaaa sudha or others for that matter. Interval varaikkum kooda paarka mudiyala. The whole story line that the hero wants the best in the life is absurd. Basement eh ivvalavu weak ah irukkarche building mattum eppadi irukku. Intha building kku ennathaan architect, interior designer suppport irunthaalum yaarum vaanga mattanga...Ulaga tholaikkachigalil paakkarthu kooda time waste..
Anbe sivam - Woah.... i watched again for the 10th time. I like the dialogues and the suble humour. Was waiting eargerly for the tsunami reference (been doing the rounds in the mail earlier).
Gilli - Best ever film of vijay..again a racy entertainer not withstanding loopholes but with the fast pace you tend to forget the logic holes...
So, back to blogging after fun-filled weekend. Hmm forgot to mention, i had jigirthanda at murugan idli shop. Verdict - nothing but chill payasam with javvarisi sort floating around. Madurai la nallarukkumo ennavo. After drinking that i once again appreciated thirst quencher - H20 athuthaanga thanni....

Jigirthanda in Chennai not equal to what is (was) original in Madurai. That is what my co-brother says. Maduraila irundhappallaam adhai kudikkala, but ippo kudikkanum pola irukku. :-)
Review comments-Gilli->me too same view. Franctically pacy movie. Doesn't give you time to think.
Anbe Sivam-One of the best ever recent (ok, near past) Tamil movies. Plot from Trains, Planes and Automobiles massaged and reworked to Tamizhan sentiments.
Other movies, not watched. Tamil Padam > in queue. (Romba expectationoda paakareenga pola. it is a slapstick movie, view it as such. Mokkaya irundhaa enna? :-D)
tamizh padam pudikalaya?? hmm..either u like the movies they spoofed or u r not much into recent tamizh padam watching :D sirichi sirichi vai vairu all valis :) anbe sivam..right on top of all time faves. superb humour and climaxla "unaku uir pichai kuduthuten po" nu kamal santhanabarathita solra scene!! awesome :) goa epdinga patheenga!! ennala first rendu sceney thangala!! marana mokka. asala sameera nalla ilaya!! avvvvvvvvv...me ipovay skipping it.

Really? After reading all the reviews on tamil padam, i thought it must be really good. I watched part of Chandramukhi, just to laugh at the way Jyotika acts in that Ra-ra song.
Try jigartanda at Chennai sangamam next year...that's the only place where i've felt it is good and even then, i don't know if that's the original taste.

Its the one on north usman road right..Naanum onetime the drinking that jig. after watching Ayan movie..I thot it was something kicky..paathaa...Samiya kuchi ice sapta mathiri irunthu..not to mention the stomach upset after that..hehe..Actual Jigarthanda is different as RaMmmm says.

Its a first of its kind spoof movie..Cant except story and all..But i had a hearty laugh all through the movie.

@All - May be reading all the reviews about the tamizh padam dampened the spirit, i suppose. IMO,the timing of the movie could have been reduced and better editing would have made it more interesting. I think iam the odd one out.

@ gils - Enakku ennavo ella jokekkum sirikka mudiyala , as i said few evoked instant laughter. But not the whole movie.
@ jayashree- we had to skip ra-ra cos P felt it was scary (hmm enjoy panni sirikka mudiyala). Waiting for the next chennai sangamam, atleast for jigirthanda sake :)

P was busy with ffx runner = a new game introduced by aathukarar and he watched chandramukhi sans jothika scenes and gilli (vijay padamaache)

:-D Similar here as well. Generally, FF button on songs and fights to finish the movie faster, unless the songs are really good. Fights are 99.999% FFed. (if something in the plot is affected in the middle of song/fight, irukkavaey irukku REW)
hi! ellam sari, but can anyone clear my doubt? in Anbe sivam, kamal is shown as an upright serious character fighting for the rights of his workers. But after the accident, i can accept that his face changes, but how come his character itself undergoes a complete change and he becomes a comedian from a serious man? Why i am asking you is because you have seen the movie ten times and may be you know the reason.
@Venkatesh = Change in character can happen at any point of time. Hero ella padathileyum amma erantha vodane becomes sincere sigamani and would work for the upliftment of the family/society . Jokes apart, its possible - my case i would be a complete introvert during my school n college days, bt now iam opposite.
Athe maathiri, in the movie, he kisses death and comes back, naturally would have realised the importance of life = just my view.

Watched Tamizh Padam yesterday. Have to agree with you. The last one hour felt tedious, though there were a few laughs. The first hour was relatively more fun. Hmmm. full length parody panna ippadi thaan aagumo ennavo.
Appadi, so atlast enakku oru company vanthaachu...It was just a spoof avvalavuthaan nothing to evoke laughter, more of like the earlier suntv top 10 by that aarthi and ganesh. Atleast i like that aarthi a lot, so it was enjoyable to an extent
