Random thoughts

Yesterday was P's Birthday. So before proceeding, " Happy Birthday P"
The whole week was hectic and my mood was like a roller-coaster. The swing was to the extremes and even the birthday didnt do any good to it. Main reason - aathu is not in station. Of late i have been having mood swings and does it mean iam getting old.
Yesterday was also the birthday of P's one of the best friend. So went to his birthday party and since aathu is not in station we are planning for one on Sunday. And P suddenly had this doubt.
P - " Amma naanum Pa(wooh his name also starts with P) vum twins ah maaa"
Me - muzhichifying "Illaye, en kekkara"
P - " We were born on same date illaya."
Me - (ithukkuthaaan ethaanum explain panrache ozhunga pannanum, ara koraiya panna koodathu) - same date but different parents illaya so no you are not twins.

The highlight was even in the party one of the kid had same doubt.
P was elated when his friend called him and asked him to stand beside him while he cut the cake and obviously the first bite was given to P and he was all the more happy on the attention showered. Though he is waiting for the D-day for all the undivided attention.

Gulmohar

While studying in school we had textbooks from Gulmohar but wait i am not going to talk about books. Antha alavukku innum pogala. But the literal tree which i love so much. This picture shows the tree in its full josh during spring. I think its like first love, i like everything about this tree. The small oval leaves in the form of samaram and the bright red flowers , big trunk and the buds greener outside and tiny red petals inside. What a combination. Aren't we lucky to have this tree right at our door step and seeing it day after day really makes my day.
Our first intro was way back 2 decades ago. Those days while returning from school from rickshaw we were forced to take a circular route to West Mambalam via Doraisamy subway cos of the Madley railway crossing. Doraisamy road was a very wide road those days and we kids used to fight for the top of the rickshaw. I need not say about the winner though. The top spot was favoured because then we would be able to pluck the leaves from this tree and continue to mark a trial through out the route with the leaves.
Second was the trip to bangalore. I was brimming with joy when i found that bangalore was the hub of these trees with colourful flowers all over the city. Throughout my stay in bangalore i was content in watching the trees standing like guards as well people who throng to see the politicians on a whirlwind tour. I would feel like a princess being welcomed by different coloured uniformed guards. The same feel i would get in Ashok nagar, Sardar patel road and some parts of Anna nagar in chennai.
I was overwhelmed when i entered the high school. We had a huge space which served as playground, assembly as well parking lot. The perimeter was guarded by none other than my first love. How long i had been longing to get into high school just to have a glimpse of this. The ground played an important part almost in every students life. http://oreponnu.blogspot.com/2008/01/my-school.html
For this aspect alone i badly wanted to settle in Ashok Nagar/KK nagar. we r still looking for proper T-house but thats a side story. My wish was temporarily granted when we stepped into this house (present one). After moving here, P started his proper school i mean LKG and how i remember the second day of his school (first day we dropped him). Waiting for the van near the gate under the tree shade at 7.45 in the morning with flowers strewn all over the ground and huge umbrella like branch overhead full of red flowers in its full bloom. Wowww what a sight it was. From that day i relish the morning and evening wait for the van admiring the red flowers and the yellow ones at the street corner. This is the fourth year and still i cant get over the feel which i got the first day , sorry, second day of his school. Looking back both P and the tree had grown much older.

Tit-bits

Well its been long time.... Ps school starts tomorrow. We have been used to being at home at leisurely pace for the past 2.5 months. So much so for the holidays, he had been dying to go to school, away from me (this is the curse of new-x-gen, how i used to wish for some political leaders death or to the correspondents family on the first day). So the routine would set from tomorrow morn and aathu has been jumping with joy - with a long sigh - appaaada, hereafter i need not wake u after setting off the alarm (set by you with your own hands the previous night with an oath to get up early in the morning) and despite that you would exactly wake after 1/2 hour of the stipulated time only to give me coffee and breakfast of idly with rasam (of the previous night). The clockwork routine would begin and i would get decent meal hereafter... What an ungracious man!!!!!!!!!!!! After i take all the trouble to provide him a healthy breakfast and not to mention the steaming filter coffee.....
Too much of cricket makes me to shut my eyes even at the ads with the cricketers. And P has been fully dissolved into the pool. He refuses to come to bed half way through the match. Believe me the ongoing West Indies tour has been hitting me right and left. He is through all the players in the IPL and quizzes me about their franchise for which my ultimate answer would be a blank stare.... And not to mention his questions.....
P:Amma why Virat kohli is not the captain of RCB , he is an Indian rite? Why should Vettori be the captain?
Me:Because Vettori is more experienced than Kohli!!!!
P: Even Sachin is experienced but Dhoni is only the captain rite!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So why not Kohli?!!!!
Me: Blinking profusely and without knowing how to answer changes the topic.............
Aaathu has got the new Iphone4. This man who refuses to get a new jean and t-shirt indulges himself with new mobiles costing about20 times more than a new pair of jean. Odd indulgence i should say... But i really like the clarity of pictures and the new feature of google maps on that.
Saw Kung fu panda 2 at AGS Villivakkam , i liked the interior but it took solid half-an-hour to spot the theater. We had been missing the street and going to and fro through the same road for about 20 minutes ignoring the narrow street. Then went on to find the bus stand behind which the theatre stood not holding to its image projected. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the movie and was surprised to find more adults than children and equal number of thatha paatties.
Who would have thought of Peacock as an evil creature - rather odd i say. Aaathu felt extremely patriotic and was cringing that our national bird was portrayed as evil. Strange man i say!!!!!

Kiddie talks- 26

I have been toying with the title for about 10 minutes. Whether to name it as Kiddie talks or to change the topics henceforth. Such is the alarm set by P.

First instance

P has this strange habit of immediately not doing anything or everything i say. He would counter with some excuse and would ask for 5 minutes. Whether it is closing the door, getting up in the morning or night time ritual of relieving himself. He would say amma you do this , then i would do.
Once during bed time when i asked him to go to toilet , he said amma u tell me this story then i would go. then i started yelling him since i was in a bad mood (eppothaaan illennu aathu solluvar)
Immediately P retorted,

Amma intha 6 yrs ah nee solrathathaaana naaan kekkaren inimeyaaanum atleast naaaan solrathaaa kelu
(All these six years i was listening to you atleast from today u listen to me)

Ithukku enna solrathu........

Second one

Was giving him bath and as usual he was playing with the soap and water and instead of putting the soap in the case he would put it in the mug full of water. Here again i yelled at him.......

Me : P u keep the soap down and let me wash ur face.

P : Illammmaa i am going to wash

Me : No, u dont know let me do it (along with my famous stare)

P : Ammaaa nee kulikkariyaaa illa naaan kulikkarenaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Third

Aathu was working in his laptop. P was just lying on the bed and aathu had his laptop on the bed. P while just moving from side to side accidentally pushed the laptop.

A : P , kaala edu, see u r going to break the laptop.

P : Appa, iru naaan antha laptop ah kaalaala odaikka poren.

A : got miffed.... P intha maathiri ellam sollalaama, appa evvalavu kashta pattu work panren, night ellam muzhichindu velai pannren, nee ippadi ellam pesariye......

P : Appa just oru joke kkukku sonnathukku ivvalavu pesariye appa...............

A : !@#$#$%%###

Kiddie Talks - 25

As always iam taken back by the presence of mind the gen-x kids show now-a-days. Not only P but iam seeing it all around. Now back to the business...

Its been raining birthdays all around. Be it school or office colleagues or neighbors. So the night talks goes as follows:
P : Amma can i also have a birthday this week.
Me : Its already over and ur mam knows all about ur date of birth.
P : Amma please ma...
Me: Ur mam has the record of all the students , so u cannot fool her.
P : Then lets say its my star birthday.
Me : !@#$%%

As you all are aware we have a small library for P at home. Whenever we go shopping, we get couple of books for him. One such book is Spelling activity.
P was doing the book yesterday since his assessment got over last week. It had series of headings like class teacher, books, hobbies, best friends etc. under which 4 examples of each to be given. One such heading is insects.
Guess what he had written...
Rangooschi (the exact spelling which he wrote)
We were all literally ROTFL reading that and with the explanation given.

Latest humming tunes of P.... One cannot but swell with pride when u hear him singing these..
Then pandi seemaiyile from Nayagan
Ninnukkori varanum from Agni natchathiram
Chinna chinna asai from Roja
Meenkudi theril - no idea of the movie

All effects of FM.......

Sick, Sick then again Sick...

Its been sick-o-mania right thro the past month. Like they used to say in SUN previously it has been sick maaaatham at P's household. It all started with one sadabisheham...
Do you believe in kan-dhrishti.... Yes its been raining on us....
The first dhrishti is like this.... Intha CG evvalavu nallava, adakkamaana ponnu, (ithuellam namba appappo seththukka vendam) how effectively she is managing home as well the kid. (the main protagonist is CG). Next - look at CG , she is sure lucky to have this kind of aathu , who does the business prudently and inspite of his workload never fails to carry her in a platter (literally) (here also though the praises are showered on aathu the protagonist is CG). Next is P - adadaa how intelligent he is? Look at the way he speaks?

One sample on P's diplomatic way...
Once his periamma made Gobi 65 and it was not just enough spicy.

Periamma - P unakku Gobi pidichirukka?

P - Romba nalla irukku, aana sambar kooda irunthaa innum nalla irukkum!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was like aaaawwwwwww for a minute.......then started ROTFL ing......

Here also the main compliments go for P but still the dhrishti part comes to me, myself athaaanga naaan. The scene from nayagan(kamal) comes to my mind here. The children would be re-enacting the roles of their father and the iyer at their backyard when one of them calls Iyere? the girl would immediately respond - Nanthan iyer!!! Nanthan iyer!!!! Antha maathiri Naanthan ella circumstances leyum nnu solla varen!!!!!!!!!!!

It started on P literally. He went down with cough, cold and then the first round of doctor was over. Immediately yours truly went to doctor for the same reason and aathu too followed suite. Not long before suddenly P got temperature to the tune of 102 and was immediately rushed to the doctor who promptly blamed the sinusitis and made appropriate noises and then gave the medicines all not before extracting all in all to the tune of thousand including medicines.
The same evening even before the thermometer cooled , i occupied the other side of the bed. What started of as fever gradually accommodated vomiting , diarrhea, joint pains, stomach ulcer etc.. So went 5 days in a jiffy with IV on first two and liquid diet on next three. Ist day the sister was in a hurry it seems so she kept the flow to the maximum and after two bottles , shivering started. Aathu who was near got scared - ithu enna spring ball maathiri body bayangara shivering ah irukkunnu. It was like the ActII popcorn popping in a cooker without the pop up sound but was amply matched by the hmmmm sounds given by yours truly... So apart from the fever and vomit medicines, ithukkum sethu oru 3 injection.
I think the month long stock would have become deplete within 5 days. Nalla vela next two days fever continue ayirunthaaa, dengue and leptospirosis medicines kooda gaali aagi irukkum.....
Now All is well nnu nenaikkaren. Waiting for the next round of dhrishti where a spate of marriages are due starting from chithirai maaasam......

Heart-to-Heart-II

My first part...
http://oreponnu.blogspot.com/2010/02/maiden-attempt-heart-to-heart.html

Rest...

The moment arrived with a bang. Can you imagine it? Oh my god!!!!! Were those really those three precious words? Did he really utter them? Does he know the meaning? I started looking left , right and the top floor to make sure he threw those words towards the right person – is that really me?!!!!!!!!!! Or am I imagining something.

To a person who always grew up being compared with cousins physically as well intellectually , this came as a shock really. Common friends always used to admire the more beautiful, fairer and the talkative cousin. At school too, friends , classmates used to admire the younger one more. Hey your cousin is really pretty. Though she switched schools often, she managed to stand out on her own and this was the reason she was favored upon.

Everyone irrespective of their bearings have certain expectations regarding the attributes they would look upon on the opposite sex. So mine always had these ones – tall, lean, spectacles a must and the complexion never made an issue (on the fair side added advantage but one cannot overlook their negatives in this aspect). The first glimpse was caught on the deepavali day – what a cliché – he was very active and was busy bursting the crackers along with his brother (older one I assume due to his bearing personality). Not only their money he was burning to ashes but also those of their neighbors (two beautiful girls, but older ones , I dare say) with whom his brother was busily flirting. We didn’t have deepavali that year because of our uncles untimely death , all the more looking forward to get it past on us. Though his brother also fell into the category of favourite attributes, he lacked one and the foremost of it being slim. Nevertheless ignoring him would be foolish cos he might be the pathway leading to his sibling. Keeping said thoughts to self I got more involved in the immediate events, being the marriage of my uncle.

Marriage being the last one in the family in the immediate future was an elaborate event. This occupied the thoughts to the brim and in the commotion "kannadi"(nick name given owing to the fact that spectacles occupied large portion of his attractive face ) conveniently took the last of it. Since the hormones of the teens were in full swing, the thoughts or the attention couldn't be kept tied to one person, so there were way back many crushes and on-lookers. And the competition was fierce in the home-ground owing to the cousin factor, so all those crushes were to be kept safely hidden for the fear of being mocked.

Sufficient time passed between the first encounter and the next with "kannadi". The time factor in this case due to distractions extended to more than a year. The next one happened in a bus stop....

Impressions

I feel people should travel a lot. It really gives u so much to think about and by various means of transport especially. By travel i mean,...
